I read this article in the Washington Post today, and once again I was struck by the fact that Bush still thinks the economy is going well. He emphasizes the growth rate and GDP as if repeating those numbers will make us average citizens forget our shrinking wages and growing debts.

It is no accident that the lion's share of the benefits of the recent economic growth have accrued to the upper class. That is a direct result of Republican policy, and is exactly the way they think it should be. So Bush is understandably perplexed when the people at the bottom report that they aren't enjoying the current economic boom. "Everything is fine up here," he says, and keeps bumbling along.
